You’ve decided it’s time to update your family photos (great!), but now you’re faced with the classic question: mini session vs full session—how do you choose?
Both options sound good in theory. But how do you know which one actually fits your family’s energy, schedule, and needs?
Let’s break it down a bit and give you some helpful info to guide your decision.

What’s the Difference?
Think of a mini session as a highlight reel. It’s short and sweet—usually around 15 minutes—and happens on specific dates at a location I’ve chosen. They’re great if you want just a few updated photos, don’t want to overthink things, or have little ones (or a spouse) with a short attention span.
A full session, on the other hand, is the whole story. It usually lasts closer to an hour, and it’s completely customized—your location, your vibe, your pace. It allows for more freedom, more variety, and more time to settle in and be yourselves. Especially helpful if your toddler needs a little warm-up time or if you’re looking for more variety in candid shots.

So… Mini Session vs Full Session: Which One’s Right for You?
Here’s the thing: both are great—it just depends on what you want out of your photos.
A mini session might be perfect if:
- You’re mainly looking for a few updated shots for holiday cards or grandma’s fridge
- You’re okay with less variety in backdrops and poses
- You like the simplicity of a pre-set date and location
But a full session gives you more space to breathe. If you want the kind of gallery that tells a story from start to finish—the silliness, the snuggles, the small in-between moments—this is where that magic happens. It’s ideal if:
- You want to choose a meaningful location (like your home or a favorite park)
- You’re looking for a mix of portraits and candid storytelling
- You like having time to relax and not feel rushed

Still Not Sure?
Totally fine. A lot of families go back and forth, and some even rotate—mini one year, full the next. You really can’t go wrong. Either either way, we’re going to create something beautiful and unforgettable.
